Ghana Navy Launches Drone Technology to Strengthen Maritime Security with Exercise BLUE SCREEN

The Ghana Navy has taken a major leap in modernising its maritime operations following the successful execution of “Exercise BLUE SCREEN”, a Quad-Copter Drone Capability Demonstration conducted by the Special Boat Squadron (SBS).

This exercise represents a pivotal step in enhancing security across Ghana’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), allowing the navy to remotely monitor vessels, track suspicious activities, and conduct more effective maritime surveillance.

Advanced Drone Capabilities for Maritime Surveillance

The demonstration featured drones equipped with GPS-controlled cameras, enabling real-time detection and monitoring of maritime traffic. These drones are designed to identify potential security threats and help mitigate risks before they escalate.

By integrating unmanned aerial systems into daily operations, the Ghana Navy can carry out rapid reconnaissance, collect actionable intelligence, and improve response times in protecting its maritime borders.

DeltaQuad Pro Drones: Extended Flight and High-Tech Features

The SBS has undergone specialised training to operate the new drone systems, including the DeltaQuad Pro drones. These drones boast advanced features and can stay airborne for up to 110 minutes, greatly expanding operational coverage for surveillance missions.

The long flight time and precision navigation capabilities of the DeltaQuad Pro drones are expected to transform naval patrol strategies, enabling continuous monitoring and improved situational awareness.

Commitment to Modernising Ghana’s Naval Operations

Exercise BLUE SCREEN underscores the Ghana Navy’s dedication to leveraging technology for enhanced maritime security. The adoption of drone technology aligns with global trends in naval modernisation and demonstrates Ghana’s proactive approach to safeguarding its offshore resources and trade routes.

With the SBS leading the integration of this technology, the Ghana Navy is positioning itself as a forward-thinking force capable of tackling evolving maritime security challenges effectively.
