Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters Hit in Southern Lebanon

A Ghanaian peacekeeping battalion deployed in Southern Lebanon under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) came under missile attack on Friday evening, leaving two Ghanaian soldiers critically injured and another soldier traumatized.

The attack reportedly occurred between 17:45 and 17:52 local time when multiple missiles struck the Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters area. According to the Ghana Armed Forces, the Officers’ Mess facility was directly hit and completely burnt down.

Two Soldiers Injured but Stable

Military authorities confirmed that two soldiers sustained serious injuries during the strike and were immediately given emergency medical care. Officials say the injured personnel are currently in stable condition.

Arrangements are underway to evacuate the wounded soldiers to the UNIFIL Headquarters Referral Hospital for specialized treatment.

Troops Sheltered in Underground Bunkers

The Ghana Armed Forces assured the public that other personnel stationed at the battalion base remained safe as troops quickly moved into underground bunkers after the missile attack.

The swift response helped prevent further casualties among the Ghanaian peacekeeping contingent deployed in the volatile region.

Following the incident, the Government of Ghana lodged a formal protest at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
