The reports circulated online on Friday, October 16, 2026, with posts claiming that Agyapong had submitted a resignation letter to NPP National Chairman John Boadu. However, his spokesperson, Kwasi Kwarteng, has publicly rejected the claim.

In a statement shared on social media, Kwarteng said Agyapong was in China conducting business and had not submitted a resignation letter to anyone in the party. He urged the public to disregard the circulating reports.

The denial comes amid tensions between Agyapong and sections of the NPP following his defeat in the party’s presidential primary on January 31, 2026. Former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia won the contest to become the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general election.

Agyapong has also faced an internal disciplinary process over public comments, with party officials previously indicating that a committee report was still awaited. These disagreements have fuelled speculation about his political future, but they do not establish that he has resigned.

Based on the spokesperson’s public denial and the available reporting, the viral resignation claim is unsupported. Ghana Media has not seen an authenticated resignation letter confirming that Agyapong has left the NPP.
