President Mahama Visits Injured Military Recruits After Elwak Stadium Stampede

President John Dramani Mahama has paid a visit to potential Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruits who were hospitalized following a tragic stampede earlier today at the Elwak Sports Stadium in Accra.

The incident occurred during a mass recruitment exercise that reportedly drew thousands of hopeful applicants. Unfortunately, overcrowding at the venue led to a stampede, leaving several injured and a few in critical condition.

President Mahama, accompanied by senior military officers and health officials, visited the injured recruits at the 37 Military Hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment. He expressed deep concern over the tragedy and assured the affected individuals and their families of the government’s full support.

“I am deeply saddened by this incident. Every young Ghanaian deserves a fair and safe opportunity to serve their country,” the President stated. He also commended the medical staff for their swift response in stabilizing victims and urged the Ghana Armed Forces to review safety protocols in future recruitment exercises to prevent a recurrence.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the stampede, with authorities promising to implement immediate measures to ensure public safety during such national exercises.
