Accra, Ghana – Eze Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu, a prominent Igbo leader residing in Ghana, has instituted legal action against politician Hassan Ayariga, filing a defamation suit at the Accra High Court.
According to court documents filed on October 1, 2025, the lawsuit stems from statements made by Ayariga in a July 19 interview, during which he allegedly labeled Ihenetu a “scammer” and accused him of involvement in money laundering, human trafficking, prostitution, and other crimes.
Eze Ihenetu, who has lived in Ghana for over three decades and operates various business interests in both Ghana and Nigeria, argues that the allegations are false and malicious, and that they have severely damaged his reputation.
In his suit, Ihenetu is seeking a GHS 50 million award in general damages, USD 5.6 million in special damages (citing cancelled business contracts), a public apology via media, and a perpetual injunction that would bar Ayariga from repeating the alleged statements.
He also asks the court to declare the statements defamatory and to compel Ayariga to retract and apologize through the same media channels in which the remarks were made.
A legal team led by Muniru M. Kassim from Obour, Minta & Co. is representing Ihenetu. The court has reportedly ordered Ayariga to enter appearance within eight days after being served.
