Alexander Djiku embraces the challenge of playing for Fenerbahçe under José Mourinho

At 29, Alexander Djiku is thriving under the leadership of Jose Mourinho, who became the head coach of Fenerbahce in June. While Mourinho began pre-season training last month, Djiku was granted extra time off after playing in Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic.

Now, the Ghanaian center-back has joined his club teammates in their pre-season preparations, developing a promising relationship with his new manager.

Intense Competition at Fenerbahce

As Fenerbahce gears up for their UEFA Champions League qualifying match against Lugano, Djiku highlights the robust competition within the team. “Fenerbahce is a prestigious club with exceptional players, and this competition enhances our overall strength,” Djiku stated. “Players in all positions are giving their best effort to contribute to the team’s success.”

Building a Strong Bond with Mourinho

Djiku appears to be forming a close bond with Mourinho, joining a distinguished group of Ghanaian players like Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari who have worked with the renowned coach. Viral photos from a recent training session show Mourinho with his arm around Djiku, which many Ghanaian fans interpret as a sign of their good relationship.

Since joining Fenerbahce in the summer of 2023 after leaving Ligue 1 side Racing Strasbourg, Djiku has become an integral part of the team.
