Kwasi Appiah named among CAF’s top coaches of 2024 after Sudan success

Sudan’s head coach Kwasi Appiah has secured a spot on the coveted 10-man nominee list for the 2024 CAF Coach of the Year award.

The Ghanaian coach, aged 64, has become a standout figure after transforming Sudan’s national team into a formidable force since his appointment over a year ago.

Under Appiah’s guidance, the Sudanese Falcons have achieved an impressive unbeaten record in 2024, losing only once in the last 12 matches and leading their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying group, ahead of favorites like Senegal.

Sudan also sits second in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, needing only a point to advance.

Appiah’s influence was further evident when Sudan defeated Ghana, disrupting the Black Stars’ AFCON journey. However, Ghana’s Mohammed Kudus and some other prominent players were surprisingly excluded from the CAF Footballer of the Year shortlist.
