The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Disciplinary Board has ruled against Libya in a recent Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match, awarding Nigeria a 3-0 forfeit win.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles were forced to abandon their trip to Benghazi after being stranded at a Libyan airport, leaving the eagerly anticipated game unplayed.
CAF’s investigation found the Libya Football Federation in violation of several regulations, including Article 31 of the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON guidelines and Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.
As a result, Libya not only forfeits the match but also faces a hefty USD 50,000 fine, payable within 60 days.
This decisive win boosts Nigeria’s qualification chances, building on their narrow 1-0 victory in the first leg.
