Actress Christiana Awuni has voiced strong dissatisfaction with the treatment of Ghana’s movie industry under President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration.
Speaking on UTV, she criticized the government for failing to deliver on promises made to filmmakers and highlighted the President’s reluctance to sign a crucial bill affecting their sector.
Awuni urged Ghanaians to consider voting for John Mahama in the 2024 elections, citing the NDC’s support for the movie industry and their stance against financial mismanagement under the current administration.
“The promises made by Nana Addo regarding a film village remain unfulfilled, and our proposed bill was dismissed without due consideration,” Awuni lamented. She pointed out the industry’s consistent neglect during budget allocations and expressed frustration over their efforts being disregarded in parliament.
“We need leadership that takes responsibility seriously,” she added, indirectly referring to Vice President Bawumia, and advocated for a change to prioritize the industry’s needs.
Awuni’s comments highlight the industry’s plea for acknowledgment and support, presenting Mahama and the NDC as potential champions for their cause in the upcoming elections.
