A-Plus Leads Arrest of Suspect in Abeiku Killing
Gomoa Central Member of Parliament Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has led a police operation resulting in the arrest of a suspect in connection with the alleged killing of a man identified as Abeiku during violent clashes between residents of Gomoa Oguaakrom and New Winneba in Ghana’s Central Region.
The development was reported by Citi Newsroom on Friday, September 4, following a police operation that resulted in the suspect being taken into custody.
Footage monitored by Channel One News showed the suspect in handcuffs at a police station, with two men in plain clothes standing beside him as A-Plus confronted him over the alleged killing.
The suspect, however, denied killing Abeiku, according to the report.
A-Plus confronts suspect
During the confrontation, A-Plus accused the man of killing Abeiku before fleeing the area.
He also warned young people involved in the violence, saying the arrest should serve as a lesson.
The dramatic encounter was captured during a Facebook Live broadcast on Thursday, September 3.
While the footage has attracted significant attention online, the suspect’s denial remains an important part of the account.

Violence erupted between Gomoa Oguaakrom and New Winneba
The arrest follows violent clashes between residents of Gomoa Oguaakrom and New Winneba on September 1.
According to reports, some residents of Gomoa Oguaakrom entered New Winneba and allegedly attempted to lock up some shops.
Residents of New Winneba reportedly resisted the move, leading to a confrontation that escalated into gunfire.
The violence left three people dead and several others injured.
Citi Newsroom reported that the current arrest brings the number of people arrested in connection with the violence to eight.
A wider dispute over land
The confrontation is reportedly connected to a longstanding dispute over land ownership between communities in the area.
A-Plus has previously spoken publicly about the dispute and questioned the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
In an interview on September 2, he alleged that police officers killed two people and injured 19 others during the confrontation. He also alleged that one of the victims was shot approximately two kilometres away from the main scene.
Those allegations concerning police conduct have not been independently established.
Police accounts cited in the reporting place the death toll at three, with between 15 and 17 people injured and receiving treatment at Winneba Trauma Hospital. Additional police personnel have reportedly been deployed to the area, with checkpoints and patrols intensified.
