Abu Trica Pleads Not Guilty in U.S. Romance Scam Case, Jury Trial Set for September

Popular Ghanaian social media personality Frederick Kumi, widely known as Abu Trica, has pleaded not guilty to federal charges in the United States over his alleged involvement in an $8 million romance scam case.

The plea was entered during his latest appearance before a U.S. federal court on Friday, July 10, 2026, marking the beginning of what is expected to be a closely watched legal battle. The case stems from allegations linked to a romance fraud investigation that previously led to extradition proceedings in Ghana.

Abu Trica appears before a U.S. federal court and pleads not guilty as jury trial is set for September.

According to reports from the court proceedings, Abu Trica denied all charges brought against him by entering a not guilty plea. The court subsequently scheduled a jury trial for September 8, 2026, where prosecutors and the defence are expected to present their evidence.

The hearing also confirmed that Abu Trica is now represented by an attorney based in Ohio, replacing his previous Ghana-based legal representation. The development signals the transition of the case into the pre-trial phase as both parties prepare for the upcoming trial.

Authorities have alleged that the case involves an estimated $8 million romance scam scheme. However, by pleading not guilty, Abu Trica continues to deny the allegations. Under the U.S. legal system, defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

The case has attracted significant attention in both Ghana and the United States due to Abu Trica’s popularity on social media and the international nature of the investigation.

As proceedings continue, more court filings and hearings are expected before the September jury trial.
