Adwoa Safo Says She Only Sought to Honour Father’s Dying Wish to Remove Brother Israel as Kristo Asafo Leader

Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo has said her involvement in the escalating leadership dispute within the Kristo Asafo Mission was driven by a desire to honour what she describes as the dying wish of her late father, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.

Sarah Adwoa Safo says she sought to honour her late father’s dying wish amid the Kristo Asafo leadership dispute.

According to Adwoa Safo, her father’s final wish was that her brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, be removed from the leadership of the church, a claim that adds another dramatic layer to the deepening family and succession controversy surrounding the religious movement.

“I only sought to honour my father, Apostle Kwadwo Safo’s dying wish that my brother, Israel, be removed as leader of the Kristo Asafo Church,” Adwoa Safo is reported to have said.

Her position comes amid an intense dispute over the future leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission following the death of its founder. The controversy has drawn significant public attention, with competing claims and accounts emerging from members of the family and church leadership.

Adwoa Safo has maintained that the dispute is not about a personal ambition to lead the church, control church property or secure an inheritance. Rather, she says her actions are connected to final directives allegedly left by her father before his death.

Earlier reports indicated that members of the Kwadwo Safo family had rejected claims to leadership by Israel Nana Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as Akofena, arguing that the late founder had revised the succession arrangement before his death. Those assertions remain central to the ongoing dispute.

The controversy has become even more sensitive following a reported shooting incident in June 2026, after which Adwoa Safo publicly addressed her safety and the wider circumstances surrounding the family disagreement. Investigations and legal processes connected to aspects of the dispute have also attracted national attention.

However, the competing claims surrounding succession remain contentious, and statements attributed to the various parties should be understood within the context of an ongoing family, church and legal dispute.

As public interest grows, attention is expected to remain focused on documentary evidence, court proceedings and any official determination regarding the leadership structure of the Kristo Asafo Mission.
