Speaking on Onua Maakye, Captain Smart declared that he already has a comprehensive development blueprint aimed at transforming Mumford and surrounding communities through strategic investments and infrastructure projects.
“Not Government Money”
According to Captain Smart, the proposed initiative will not rely on taxpayers’ money or government allocations.
“I have a $5 million development plan for Mumford in the Gomoa West Constituency. The funding for this initiative will come entirely from my personal resources, not from government funds.”
The statement has quickly generated debate across social media, with many Ghanaians praising the bold commitment while others questioned how the ambitious project would be financed and implemented.
Public Reactions Grow
The announcement comes amid increasing calls for politicians and influential personalities to contribute directly to community development beyond campaign promises. Supporters say such initiatives could inspire private investment into local communities if fulfilled.
Critics, however, believe the announcement should eventually be backed with detailed project timelines and transparent implementation plans.
Why This Story Matters
Development pledges funded through private resources remain relatively uncommon in Ghanaian politics and public life. If executed successfully, the initiative could significantly improve infrastructure and economic opportunities within Gomoa West while setting a new example of community-led investment.
