Victor Kofi Owusu, the family head (Abusuapanyin) of the late Ghanaian Highlife legend Daddy Lumba, has addressed calls from some members of the singer’s family demanding his immediate removal from office.
Speaking in an interview on Ezra TV on February 26, 2026, Kofi Owusu dismissed the agitation, emphasizing that no authority can remove him from his position as family head except the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Addressing “Mama China,” a leading advocate for his removal, Owusu made it clear that she is not a legitimate member of the Ekuona family. He further explained that even if she had managed to recruit two actual Ekuona members to join her cause, it does not grant her membership or the right to influence family leadership.
“No one can overthrow me as a family head except Otumfuo. People don’t show respect and are just talking without understanding. Who is Mama China anyway? If a family head organizes a funeral, I answer only to my family. A post-funeral review is for us, not for bloggers or outsiders,” he stated.
Background of the Dispute
The tension within the family reached a boiling point on February 25, 2026, when a section of the family met with the Chiefs of Parkoso to demand Owusu’s removal. Led by Mama China, the group alleged that Kofi Owusu had tarnished the reputation of the late musician and the entire Parkoso family.
Among the grievances cited were:
- Lack of Consultation: The group claimed Owusu organized Daddy Lumba’s funeral without involving the singer’s first wife or elder sister.
- Secrecy Over Burial: Family members expressed frustration that they still do not know where the Highlife legend was laid to rest.
- Disrespect to Tradition: Mama China argued that since the women of the family were responsible for his installation, they held the power to demand his removal.
The Ultimatum
The dissenting family members have issued a two-week ultimatum for Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu to appear before the Chiefs of Parkoso to respond to these allegations.
“We have given him a two-week period to appear before the Chiefs on March 11, 2026, to answer our questions or face the consequences,” Mama China added.
The controversy follows recent emotional public pleas from Daddy Lumba’s aunt, who claimed the family has been “tormented” by the singer’s ghost because they have been prevented from seeing his body or knowing his final resting place.
