As Derek Boateng and his wife mark their 22nd wedding anniversary, an intriguing detail about their relationship has come to light. At 41, Boateng, who began his career at Liberty Professionals and played for renowned European teams such as Panathinaikos, AIK, Getafe, Fulham, and Eibar, is happily married to Aisha Ansong. The couple, wed since 2002, share three children.
Boateng recounted how he met Aisha while staying with Liberty Professionals’ late co-owner Alhaji Sly Tetteh. During his time at the club, Boateng was under the care of Felix Ansong, another co-owner and Aisha’s father. Boateng’s affection for Aisha grew, leading him to seek her father’s approval for marriage.
In an interview with Ghanaweb, Boateng described the serendipity of their meeting: “While Sly Tetteh was managing my career and helping me secure a spot in Europe, he was also hosting me at his home. It was there I met Aisha. I approached Mr. Ansong for his blessing, and he supported our marriage. We are now blessed with three children and immensely grateful.”
