Etse Gbelewu Innocent, known as Etse Sparrow, began his music career at 17 while also embracing his family’s tradition of fetishism in Abor, Volta Region. He’s now one of the Dancehall kings in Accra, Kasoa & Volta Region
Despite challenges, he pursued music passionately, even traveling to Accra and sleeping in cars to meet Hammer during his early days to audition for the last two compilation with the likes of Kwaw Kese and Tinny, although initial setbacks with Hammer led him to strike out on his own. Edem was already a hit under Hammer, so he decided to give attention to Edem leaving me behind of some extortion made from me to put me on.
Undeterred, Etse Sparrow financed his debut recording, which quickly became a hit in Volta Region. Today, he’s a prominent artist in Kasoa, balancing a successful music career with his commitment to his cultural roots. His journey highlights resilience and determination in Ghana’s music scene, from early struggles to becoming a respected figure.
