The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has sounded an alarm regarding the packaging and distribution of contaminated water from illegal mining sites, commonly referred to as “Galamsey water.”
The FDA stressed that such practices are not only unlawful but also pose significant health risks.
In a statement released on October 21, 2024, the FDA urged the public to avoid participating in or supporting the sale of water from these hazardous sources. They emphasized the importance of reporting such activities for swift action.
Additionally, the FDA cautioned that licensed sachet water facilities are strictly regulated, and producing unapproved products within these facilities is illegal, violating the Public Health Act of 2012 (Act 851).
The agency, working alongside security forces, is committed to identifying those involved in these illegal activities and ensuring they face justice. Public safety remains their top priority.
