I would have turned down Black Stars’ appointment if I were Stephen Appiah – Fiifi Banson claims

0

Veteran broadcaster and football enthusiast Fiifi Banson has expressed his disapproval of Stephen Appiah’s recent appointment to the Black Stars management team, stating he would have declined the role if he were in Appiah’s position.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) recently named the former Black Stars captain as Vice Chairman of the newly formed Management Committee for the senior national team. Appiah, who led Ghana to the 2006 and 2010 World Cups in Germany and South Africa, respectively, will also act as the lead for player relations.

Speaking on Accra-based Sporty FM, Fiifi Banson criticized the decision and suggested that Appiah should have refused the appointment.

“I wouldn’t take up a Black Stars management committee role if I were Stephen Appiah,” Banson remarked.

The committee also includes Dr Randy Abbey as Chairman, who will spearhead engagements with the government and other key stakeholders. Samuel Aboabire, Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Football Association and a GFA Executive Council member, and Moses Armah, President of Medeama Sporting Club, are also part of the team.

Aboabire and Armah will handle operations and matchday activities while ensuring sponsors, partners, and other collaborators are well-catered for. Richard Nsenkyire, President of FC Samartex 1996, joins the committee with responsibility for special duties.

comparison of WASSCE results for Ghana with specific countries in the region, focusing on trends in pass rates and subject performances.

1. Ghana:

Overall Pass Rate: In recent years, Ghana has seen pass rates range from 60%-70% in core subjects. For example, the 2021

WASSCE results reported a pass rate of approximately 65%.

Subjects: Ghanaian students typically perform well in English Language and Mathematics, with pass rates often exceeding 70% in these subjects.

2. Nigeria:

• Overall Pass Rate: The pass rates for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in Nigeria have been lower than Ghana’s, often ranging between 50%-60%. For instance, the 2021 results indicated a pass rate of around 50.3%.

Subjects: Nigerian students face challenges in core subjects, with mathematics and English Language pass rates often below
50%.

3. Sierra Leone:

• Overall Pass Rate: Sierra Leone has experienced fluctuating pass rates in

WASSCE, generally around 40%-50%. The 2021 results indicated a pass rate of approximately 45%.

• Subjects: Students in Sierra Leone struggle significantly in mathematics and English, with pass rates typically below 50%.

4. The Gambia:

Ghana generally outperforms its neighboring West African countries in WASSCE results, with higher pass rates and better performance in core subjects like English Language and Mathematics. In contrast, countries such as Nigeria, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, and Liberia face ongoing challenges that impact their students’ success. Addressing educational disparities, improving resource allocation, and enhancing teacher training will be essential for improving WASSCE outcomes across the region.

By continuing to focus on these areas, Ghana and its neighboring countries can work toward achieving better educational results for their students.

Strika Comes Back Stronger, Drops Trailer For New Skit With Awesome Video Quality

0

Strika of Beasts Of No Nation fame has dropped a trailer for another skit after the first one he dropped since leaving Akabenezer’s camp was heavily criticised

The actor’s new skit looked like a massive improvement from the first one, as it had far better visuals and camera work with a compelling storyline.

He shared the trailer on his TikTok page, and in the comments section, many Ghanaians were impressed and expressed enthusiasm in seeing the full skit.

Popular Ghanaian actor Strika, who gained acclaim for his role in the Hollywood flick Beasts of No Nation, has shared a trailer for his new skit on TikTok.

This comes after his first skit, released after leaving Ak-abenezer’s camp, received heavy criticism for its poor quality and weak storyline.

In the new skit, Strika played the role of a feared rebel leader commanding a group of troops. The trailer showed civilians fleeing at the sight of him, creating a tense and engaging atmosphere. The visuals and camera work were noticeable improvements from his earlier work, earning positive reactions from viewers. Many Ghanaians praised the trailer and expressed excitement for the full skit.

Strika’s earlier skit, where he was seen buying bread and sharing it with friends, was widely criticised. Social media users described it as uninspiring and poorly pro-duced, especially compared to the high-quality videos he featured in, while working with comedian Ras Nene, popularly known as Dr Likee.

Why Strika left Dr Likee’s camp

Strika recently left Dr Likee’s team and returned to his family in Accra due to personal challenges. Gunshot, a member of Dr Likee’s team and Strika’s caretaker, alleged on YouTube that Strika faced issues with substance abuse and kleptomania. He alleged that efforts to help Strika, including rehabilitation, had not been successful.

Gunshot also claimed that Strika was arrested at one point for drug-related issues.

However, Strika has since come out to deny the claim lev-elled against him, stating that he had not stolen a mobile device like Gunshot had claimed in his lengthy YouTube disclosure of what transpired between him and the young actor.

Strika noted that he found Gunshot’s claim distasteful and a smear on his character. He added in his rant that Gunshot was deliberately assassinating his character in public as part of a ploy to heighten his YouTube engagements and viewership.

Sandra Esinam former Tv3 journalist descends on Media General

0

It’s disheartening to see a once-respected institution like Media General, where I previously worked, now being used to air questionable content that showcases a lack of intellectual rigor.

I’m baffled as to why the platform has allowed certain presenters to spread hate speech and nonsensical ideas. While I understand that the media landscape is becoming increasingly competitive, with bloggers and social media influencers vying for attention, a responsible media outlet like Media General should prioritize the nation’s interest and adhere to the principles of journalism.

Unfortunately, it seems that the Group CEO, is more focused on collecting awards and accolades than on maintaining the network’s journalistic integrity. This is a stark reminder that, as a nation, we often celebrate mediocrity over meritocracy. It’s a sad state of affairs, and I can only hope that Media General will rediscover its commitment to responsible and informative broadcasting. The decline of a once-noble institution is a loss not just for the media industry, but for the nation as a whole.
