Herve Renard, former assistant coach of the Ghana national team and a two-time Africa Cup of Nations winner, has announced his departure from the France women’s national team following the Paris Olympic Games.
Renard, who had previously indicated his intention to leave, confirmed his decision recently.
“I will be stepping down after the Paris Olympics. It’s the culmination of my time here, and in international competitions, things often end abruptly, regardless of the date,” Renard stated. “After the final match, there’s usually joy but everyone goes their separate ways. This will be my 11th international competition, so I’m accustomed to these transitions. I take great pride in having worn the French team’s jersey and finishing on a high note. Although there’s still a step to climb, I am confident that the French team will secure a title in the near future, hopefully sooner rather than later.”
Renard joined the French Football Federation (FFF) in March last year following the departure of Corinne Diacre, who faced player resistance during her tenure. Renard led Les Bleues to the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, where the team, despite minimal preparation time, exited at the quarter-final stage, marking their third consecutive elimination at that level.
France, aiming for their first major tournament victory in women’s football, now looks forward to potentially securing an Olympic medal under Renard’s guidance during his final tenure with the team.
