President of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Kudjoe Fianoo, has confirmed that despite finishing outside the top four of the Ghana Premier League, the winner of the FA Cup final between Bofoakwa Tano and Nsoatreman will participate in the 2024 Top 4 competition.

The Top 4 competition is an annual event aimed at keeping high-performing teams fit and competitive ahead of the upcoming season.

This year, it will feature Ghana Premier League champions FC Samartex, as well as the second and third-placed teams, Accra Lions and Berekum Chelsea.

Fianoo explained to Akoma FM, “The top three teams in the league (Samartex FC, Accra Lions, and Berekum Chelsea) plus the FA Cup winner will make up this year’s top four.”

Regarding the venue for the competition, Fianoo indicated that the New TNA Stadium in Tarkwa is the preferred location, with the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi as an alternative. “Although we are yet to confirm a venue, we have already written to the administration of the New Tarkwa TNA Stadium as our first choice venue and the Baba Yara Stadium as an alternative venue,” he stated.

The 2024 Top 4 competition is scheduled to take place in the first or second week of August.

Despite their positions in the league, Nsoatreman finished fifth in the Ghana Premier League, while Bofoakwa Tano faced relegation after finishing 17th. However, both teams have an opportunity to salvage their season in the FA Cup final, scheduled for Sunday, June 23, 2024, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

The upper part resembled an oversized jacket with exaggerated chest and sleeves, giving it a dramatic, almost theatrical vibe. This then transitioned into a corset-like design with silver lace holes that cinched at the waist, enhancing his silhouette.

I won’t accept sponsorship from any alcoholic brand – Joe Mettle

0

Award-winning gospel musician Joe Mettle has reiterated his stance against accepting sponsorship from alcoholic brands. During an interview on Daybreak Hitz with Andy Dosty, Mettle emphasized, “It is a no for me. Aside from faith, you can only work with brands that complement what you do.”

He further elaborated that corporate sponsorships often come with strings attached, explaining, “A company’s sponsorship is mostly not free since no matter what, you will be required to pay it someday since you will be invited on their stage.”

When asked about accepting anonymous sponsorship from an alcohol brand, he was uncertain and said, “With brands that give sponsorship and do not want to be mentioned, that is the silent sponsors, because silence is silent, I don’t know what I will do about that now though.”

The FDA’s guidelines for the Advertisement of Foods, published on February 1, 2016, prohibit well-known personalities from endorsing alcoholic beverages to prevent minors from being influenced into alcohol consumption. This guideline aligns with a World Health Organisation (WHO) policy to protect children and young individuals from alcohol addiction.

Despite a legal challenge by citizen Mark Darlington, who argued that the FDA’s directive was unconstitutional and discriminatory under Article 17 of the 1992 Constitution, the Supreme Court upheld the FDA’s ban. In a 5-2 majority decision on June 19, the court ruled that the directive was neither unreasonable nor excessive, thus affirming its constitutionality.
