The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has officially launched activities to commemorate its 40th Anniversary with vibrant health and awareness walks held simultaneously in Tema and Takoradi.

The walks were led by the Director of Port for Tema, Tebon Zumah Esq., and the Director of Port for Takoradi, Captain James Richmond Quayson, as participants marched through the two port cities dressed in GPHA’s distinctive blue, yellow and white colours.

Filled with music, dancing and enthusiastic chants, the exercise promoted healthy living while highlighting the strong sense of community that has helped sustain the Authority since its establishment.

Speaking after the Tema walk at the Junior Club House in Community Two, Tebon Zumah praised employees and retirees for their commitment and participation. He thanked the entire GPHA family for their dedication over the past forty years, noting that their collective efforts have strengthened public confidence in Ghana’s ports and supported the country’s trade facilitation agenda.

He further revealed that management is considering making the health walk an annual event because of its physical, mental and social benefits for employees. He also announced plans to establish a dedicated sports centre that will provide staff with a permanent facility for fitness programmes, sporting activities and recreational engagement.

The Director encouraged employees to maintain their commitment to excellence to ensure the Ports of Tema and Takoradi continue to enhance their reputation as efficient and competitive gateways for trade within the West African sub-region.

In Takoradi, Captain James Richmond Quayson described the anniversary as a celebration of the historic merger that created the modern Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority. He applauded Team Takoradi for its professionalism and commitment to quality service delivery, emphasizing that every department remains focused on achieving operational excellence.

He also wished continued success for staff while offering prayers for God’s blessings upon employees, management and the Board as the Authority begins its milestone anniversary celebrations.

The health walks mark the first in a series of activities planned to commemorate GPHA’s 40 years of supporting Ghana’s economic growth through efficient port operations and maritime services.
