Guru appeals to UG judicial board to suspend SRC elections following disqualification

Ghanaian musician Maradona Yeboah Adjei, widely recognized as Guru, has taken legal steps to contest his disqualification from the 2024 University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council (UGSRC) elections.

On August 16, 2024, the UGSRC Electoral Commission disqualified him, citing a breach of residency requirements under Article 4(d)(ii) of the Constitutional Instrument (CI 24).

This regulation stipulates that if any member of a candidate’s ticket fails to meet the eligibility criteria, the entire ticket is rendered ineligible.

In response, Guru has filed a petition with the UGSRC Judicial Board, seeking an interim injunction to delay the elections set for August 26, 2024.
