Issa Hayatou, the former president of CAF goes home at the age of 77

Issa Hayatou, the former president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has died at the age of 77. The renowned football administrator, who played a significant role in shaping the landscape of African football, passed away in Paris on Thursday, August 8, 2024.

His death came just one day before he would have celebrated his 78th birthday, having been born on August 9, 1946, in Garoua, Cameroon.

In a statement reported by Cameroon Concord, a CAF spokesperson reflected on Hayatou’s immense impact, saying, “We have lost a visionary leader, a man whose lifelong dedication to football has left an indelible mark on the sport in Africa.

His legacy will continue to guide our efforts as we work to further develop the game across the continent.” Hayatou’s influence on African football remains profound, ensuring that his contributions will be remembered and cherished for generations to come.
