Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has called for patience with head coach Carlos Queiroz, insisting Ghana’s players cannot fully adapt to a new tactical system within just one or two months.

Ayew made the comments after Ghana’s painful 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Jhon Arias scored the decisive goal as the Black Stars bowed out of the tournament in Kansas City.

Speaking after the match, Ayew pointed to Queiroz’s short time in charge and said the squad was still adjusting to the Portuguese coach’s methods.
“We have a new manager, who just came two months ago, trying to install his style, and people are adjusting. You don’t adjust within one month or two months, football doesn’t work like that.”
The Ghana captain said there had been visible defensive progress under Queiroz but acknowledged that the Black Stars still lacked enough cutting edge in attack.
“You could see that defensively, we were better but we fell short a bit offensively so we have to find the right balance. The manager needs time; he’s a very good manager.”
Ayew’s assessment reflected Ghana’s difficulties against Colombia, with the Black Stars struggling to create enough danger as their World Cup campaign came to an end.
Queiroz only took charge of Ghana shortly before the World Cup, giving him a limited window to reshape the team before football’s biggest tournament. Ayew’s message now places the debate over patience, continuity and the coach’s future firmly at the centre of Ghanaian football discussions.
