Kotoko defender Mohammed Nurudeen, shun football to pursue nursing

Asante Kotoko has announced the mutual termination of defender Mohammed Nurudeen’s contract, as he has chosen to advance his career in nursing. Although Nurudeen signed a three-year contract with the club in 2023, he simultaneously holds a position with the Ghana Health Service as a practicing nurse. Despite Kotoko’s efforts to persuade him to prioritize football, Nurudeen has decided that his future lies in nursing.

In an official statement, Kotoko revealed that they had entered a three-year employment agreement with Nurudeen before the start of the 2023/24 football season. Recognizing his dual commitment, the club attempted various strategies to retain him as a player, but Nurudeen remained steadfast in his decision to pursue nursing.

Following an emergency meeting on August 4, 2024, the Interim Management Committee (IMC) agreed to release Nurudeen to ensure team cohesion for the upcoming season. The IMC assured fans that this decision would not result in any financial or sporting penalties for the club and extended their best wishes to Nurudeen in his nursing career.

This move is part of Kotoko’s broader strategy to build a stronger squad, having released over 15 players in preparation for the next season. The Porcupine Warriors finished sixth in the Ghana Premier League last season, which was considered a disappointing outcome for the club.
