The Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, is advocating for the implementation of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in the Ghana Premier League by January 2025.
According to Alex Kotey, the GFA’s referee manager, Okraku hopes to introduce VAR in the second round of the current season.
Kotey mentioned that the GFA will also offer training for media personnel to ensure they understand the technical aspects of VAR and can communicate its usage accurately during broadcasts.
“The president is pushing hard to have VAR implemented by the league’s second round,” Kotey shared with Citi News, emphasizing the ongoing commitment to improve officiating quality.
The GFA recently met with a FIFA delegation to initiate VAR adoption, aiming for trials ahead of full implementation.
