Ghanaian football legend Asamoah Gyan has disclosed his admiration for Brazilian icon Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima, considering him the greatest player ever due to his exceptional skills across all facets of the game.
Ronaldo, a three-time FIFA World Player of the Year, was renowned for his prowess in goal poaching, long-range strikes, and dominance in aerial duels, qualities that inspired Gyan throughout his career.
Drawing parallels to Ronaldo’s versatility, Gyan acknowledged the profound influence the Brazilian maestro had on his playing style. “Brazilian Ronaldo is the one from whom I drew a lot of inspiration,” Gyan expressed on YFM.
“To me, he is the greatest player of all time. He was a centre forward who could do everything. I grew up and acquired skills similar to his.”
Reflecting on his own abilities, Gyan emphasized his completeness as a striker, attributing his confidence to consistent goal-scoring records. “My talent was evident, and whenever I was on the field, the mindset was that I was going to score because of my talent,” he remarked.
Gyan holds the record for the most goals scored by any Ghanaian player, with an impressive 51 goals for the Black Stars. Additionally, he is Africa’s highest goal-scorer in World Cup history, netting a total of six goals across three World Cup appearances.
