Thomas Partey declines Black Stars deputy captain role

Thomas Partey has decided against accepting the Black Stars’ deputy captaincy, citing a desire to focus entirely on his performance.

His decision, communicated to Coach Otto Addo and the Ghana Football Association, paves the way for Alexander Djiku to assume the role.

The Fenerbahçe defender is expected to take on more leadership responsibilities within the squad. Partey, however, remains a key figure for Ghana as they gear up for their 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.

His influence on the team remains strong despite stepping away from an official leadership title.
