Nigeria’s senior men’s football team, the Super Eagles, found themselves in an unexpected situation at Libya’s Al Abraq International Airport after a 12-hour delay.
Instead of being greeted by a designated team bus, the players were sent a “trotro” van for transport, a move that didn’t sit well with the team.
Super Eagles striker Victor Okoh Boniface shared a video on social media showing the players refusing to board the van, noting that none of them entered.
The team ultimately decided to boycott the match against Libya’s Mediterranean Knights, scheduled for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
CAF regulations require host nations to provide proper buses for visiting teams, and this incident raised questions about whether Libya met those standards.
The Nigerian Football Federation swiftly arranged for the players’ return to Nigeria.
