We can’t tolerate having NPP in power again – Mahama

Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Former President John Dramani Mahama has said the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) should be sent into opposition due to the way and manner the economy has been handled especially the local currency.

He observed that the Cedi continues to lose its value against the major international currencies, especially the Dollar.

Speaking in Funsi of the Wa East constituency in the Upper West Region on Sunday where he has been campaigning since Saturday, Mr Mahama said “Recently I saw the minister responsible for finance say they have successfully entered back into the capital market, that was a lie.

“What has happened is we have now finished the debt restructuring and now start paying our restructured debts. During the negotiations of the debt restructuring, Ghana was given a moratorium from paying debts. So even as our cedi was moving from 14, 15, 16  and 17 cedis, we were not servicing any debts.

“And so even in a situation where we are not servicing debts, the cedi continuous to lose value to the dollar and other international currencies. That is the situation in which the NPP has plunged this country. And that is why they must go into opposition. Their intention was only to plunder this country and take the opportunity for a few friends and family.”

He added “As we are all complaining, there are few of them who are very happy because they have benefited over the last 8 years. Those who are associated with the system have benefited. Their party apparatchiks have benefited. Their DCE’s have benefited because when you send fertilizer to them for for the farmers, they divert them.

“We cannot afford to have  NPP continue in government. If we do that, it will reward mismanagement, it will reward dishonesty, it will reward daylight robbery, they have done enough, let them go.”
