Young Man Electrocuted While Trying to Switch Off Sockets to Save TV During Alajo Floods

A young man has tragically lost his life after he was reportedly electrocuted while attempting to switch off electrical sockets inside his flooded room at Alajo in the Ayawaso Central Municipality following Monday’s devastating rains.

According to eyewitness accounts, floodwaters rapidly entered the victim’s room, prompting him to disconnect power in an effort to protect his television and other electronic gadgets. During the attempt, he reportedly came into contact with a live electrical source and was fatally electrocuted.

Residents rushed to the scene but were unable to save him. His death has added to the growing list of casualties linked to the severe flooding that affected several communities across the Greater Accra Region.

Authorities have confirmed multiple electrocution-related deaths in Alajo after homes became inundated with floodwater. Emergency responders and NADMO officials have continued rescue and recovery operations while urging residents to avoid contact with electrical installations during floods.

The heartbreaking incident serves as another reminder of the dangers posed by flooding and live electricity. Experts advise residents to switch off electricity from the main breaker whenever it is safe to do so and to avoid entering flooded buildings until power has been disconnected by qualified personnel.
