Another Major Achievement for Ghanaian Football
Akonnor became only the second Ghanaian coach to win Kenya’s top-flight league, adding another chapter to his growing managerial résumé. Before his move to East Africa, he won the Ghana Premier League title with Asante Kotoko and also guided Dreams FC to promotion.
The former Ghana captain has repeatedly emphasized the demanding nature of managing Gor Mahia, noting that the club’s passionate supporters expect nothing less than success. Despite the pressure, he successfully delivered the title in his first season.
Focus Turns to CAF Champions League
Following the league triumph and Coach of the Season recognition, Akonnor is expected to lead Gor Mahia into the CAF Champions League next season. The club has already indicated plans to strengthen the squad while maintaining the core group that delivered the championship-winning campaign.
The achievement is another proud moment for Ghanaian football, with Akonnor continuing to build his reputation as one of Africa’s most respected coaches.
