Honduras reportedly withdraw from Ghana warm-up friendly ahead of 2026 World Cup

Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have reportedly suffered a late setback after Honduras pulled out of a planned international friendly that was expected to serve as the Black Stars’ final warm-up before the tournament begins. The reported cancellation has left Ghana searching for an alternative opponent just days before their opening group match.

Friendly reportedly called off

According to multiple reports, Ghana had been expected to face Honduras in a behind-closed-doors friendly in the United States as part of its final preparations for the World Cup. However, the Honduran Football Federation reportedly withdrew from the fixture because of its own international commitments, forcing Ghana to reconsider its plans. Reports suggest the Ghana Football Association is exploring the possibility of arranging another opponent before the tournament begins. Ghana News continues to monitor developments closely.

Black Stars seek momentum

The cancellation comes after Ghana’s recent 1-1 international friendly draw against Wales, a match that extended the team’s difficult run of results ahead of the global tournament. The Black Stars had hoped another friendly would provide additional tactical preparation and match fitness before facing Panama in their opening World Cup fixture.

Why this could matter

Final warm-up matches often allow coaches to fine-tune tactics, evaluate squad depth and build rhythm before major tournaments. Losing such an opportunity at short notice could disrupt planning, although Ghana’s technical team may still arrange another fixture or an internal practice match to keep players sharp. Fans will now be waiting for official confirmation from the Ghana Football Association regarding any replacement game.
