Two young Ghanaian women have issued an emotional appeal to the Government of Ghana and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after alleging they are stranded in Jordan under distressing conditions following their journey to seek employment.
In a viral video circulating on social media, the women, aged 22 and 23, claim they travelled to Jordan in June with the hope of securing jobs but have instead found themselves without work, food, or the freedom to return home.
“We came here in June to work, but there is no work. They are treating us badly, and there is no food for us to eat. We want to return to Ghana, but we were asked to pay $1,920. Our passports have also been seized,” one of the women said in the video.
Their allegations have sparked widespread concern among Ghanaians online, with many calling on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ghana’s diplomatic mission responsible for Jordan to urgently investigate the claims and provide assistance if necessary.
The women further alleged they are being subjected to inhumane treatment and prevented from leaving the country unless they pay the demanded amount. As of publication, these claims remain allegations and have not been independently verified by GhanaMedia.net.
The situation has renewed concerns about fraudulent overseas recruitment schemes and the vulnerability of migrant workers who travel abroad in search of better economic opportunities. Labour rights advocates have repeatedly warned prospective migrants to verify recruitment agencies and employment contracts before travelling.
