National Security operatives working together with the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) have seized large sums of cash, gold bars and money-counting machines during an intelligence-led operation targeting illegal gold trading activities involving foreign nationals.
Videos circulating widely on social media show officials displaying bags containing bundles of cash alongside gold bars believed to have been confiscated during the operation. The footage has generated widespread public discussion, with many Ghanaians questioning what will happen to the seized assets.
According to GoldBod, six Indian nationals were arrested in connection with illegal gold trading activities. Authorities indicated that three of the suspects were arrested before the enforcement deadline and are expected to undergo immigration procedures, while the remaining suspects are expected to face prosecution under Ghana’s gold trading laws.

GoldBod stated that the operation formed part of the government’s efforts to enforce the Ghana Gold Board Act and protect the country’s mineral resources from illegal exploitation. Officials also disclosed that hundreds of gold bars, significant amounts of cash and money-counting machines were recovered during the exercise.
Although social media users continue to speculate about where the confiscated money and gold will ultimately go, authorities have not announced any final decision regarding the disposition of the seized assets. Under Ghanaian legal procedures, confiscated property may remain as evidence until court proceedings are concluded, with any final forfeiture subject to the orders of the appropriate court.
Government officials have reiterated that enforcement operations against illegal gold trading will continue as part of efforts to sanitize Ghana’s gold sector and ensure compliance with the law.
