Tano Hayford, popularly known as Olu Ngbɛ, has touched the hearts of many after opening up about the painful discrimination he has endured because of his rare genetic condition.
Speaking in an emotional interview circulating on social media, Hayford revealed that he was forced to leave school after some people became fearful of his appearance and condition. He said the misunderstanding continued into adulthood, making it almost impossible for him to learn a trade.
“Nobody wants to train me,” he lamented, explaining that several trade masters refused to accept him as an apprentice because they believed his condition could pose a risk or bring misfortune.
According to Hayford, the repeated rejection has left him without the opportunity to acquire vocational skills that could help him earn a living independently. Despite the setbacks, he expressed hope that society would become more understanding of people living with rare medical conditions.
