Police Arrest Suspect Over Spintex Break-In as Stolen Cash and Valuables Are Recovered

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect in connection with a case of unlawful entry and stealing at Spintex in Accra, following a swift intelligence-led operation that led to the recovery of large sums of stolen money and valuable personal items.

Suspect Arrested After Intelligence Operation

According to police reports, the suspect, identified as Daniel Odai Afotey, was arrested at Labone Beach on March 11, 2026. The arrest came after investigations into a burglary incident reported earlier in the month.

The complainant had returned home from work on March 4, 2026, at approximately 4:00 pm, only to discover that her residence had been broken into. An initial assessment revealed that cash amounting to GHS 1,000 and USD 22,350, along with other valuable personal belongings, had been stolen.

Stolen Items Recovered During Search

Following the arrest, police conducted a search of the suspect’s room, leading to the recovery of the stolen cash and several additional items suspected to have been taken from other victims. These include gold watches, jewellery, mobile phones, and a television set.

Suspect Admits Offence, Mentions Accomplice

During interrogation, Daniel Odai Afotey reportedly admitted to committing the crime. He also disclosed the involvement of an accomplice identified only as “Ewonam,” who is currently on the run.

Police say efforts are underway to track down and arrest the accomplice as part of ongoing investigations into the case.

Police Appeal to Public for Identification of Recovered Items

Authorities have indicated that some of the recovered items are believed to belong to other victims. The police are therefore calling on members of the public who may have experienced similar theft incidents in Spintex, Teshie, Nungua, and nearby areas to come forward.

Affected individuals are encouraged to report to the CID Headquarters to assist in identifying and reclaiming their property.
