Former Black Stars captain explains influence behind Dutch move
Andre Ayew has disclosed that the presence of fellow Ghanaians at NAC Breda significantly influenced his decision to sign for the Dutch side. The 36-year-old Ghanaian forward, who remains one of the most experienced players in the Black Stars setup, says the familiar environment made the transition easier and more appealing.

Ayew revealed that former Black Stars striker Mathew Amoah, who is currently part of the NAC Breda technical team, played a key role in his decision. Amoah is working closely with Ayew in an attacking role, helping him adapt quickly to the club’s system and philosophy.
Beyond the technical bench, Ayew also shares the dressing room with fellow Ghanaians Kamal Sowah and Denis Odoi. According to the veteran forward, having compatriots around has created a strong sense of unity and comfort, both on and off the pitch.
“At this stage of my career, environment matters a lot,” Ayew is reported to have said. “Knowing that there are people who understand you, your culture, and your football mentality makes a big difference.”
The former Olympique Marseille and Swansea City attacker added that the Ghanaian connection has helped him settle faster in Dutch football, allowing him to focus fully on contributing to the team’s objectives.

Ayew’s move to NAC Breda has already attracted attention among Ghanaian football fans, many of whom are eager to see how his experience and leadership will impact the club. His arrival is expected to boost the team’s attacking options while also serving as mentorship for younger players, including Sowah.
Despite his age, Ayew remains confident in his physical condition and believes he still has much to offer at club level. He emphasized that working under coaches who understand his strengths, such as Amoah, gives him added motivation to perform.
NAC Breda, on their part, are optimistic that Ayew’s experience from top European leagues and international tournaments will bring valuable leadership to the squad. The club sees his signing not just as a footballing addition but also as a cultural and motivational boost.

As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Ayew to see how he adapts to Dutch football and how the Ghanaian trio at NAC Breda continues to influence the team’s performances.
