BEKWAI, Ghana — A Bekwai Circuit Court has sentenced a 38-year-old farmer, David Donkor, to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour after convicting him of defiling a 13-year-old girl at Afoako near Bekwai in the Ashanti Region.

According to information presented in court, the offence occurred in December 2024. The incident was later reported to the police by the victim’s 27-year-old mother, triggering investigations.
Prosecutors said the convict fled the community after the case was reported. However, security personnel later tracked him to Ntotroso in the Ahafo Region, where he was arrested on January 8, 2026.
Following legal proceedings, the Bekwai Circuit Court found him guilty and sentenced him to 10 years in prison with hard labour.
The case adds to ongoing efforts by Ghana’s law enforcement agencies and the judiciary to tackle sexual offences against children and ensure perpetrators are held accountable under the law.
Authorities continue to encourage parents and guardians to report cases of child abuse promptly to help protect vulnerable children and secure justice for victims.
