Ghanaian boxing personality and outspoken entertainer Bukom Banku has reignited the long-standing rivalry between Accra and Kumasi boxers with a bold and controversial statement.
Speaking passionately during a recent public interaction, Bukom Banku dismissed the competitiveness of Kumasi-based fighters, insisting that boxers from Accra, particularly Bukom, are far superior and will always come out victorious.
“Kumasi boxers can’t fight Accra boxers. We will always win,” Bukom Banku declared confidently, drawing mixed reactions across the boxing community and social media.
His comments have since triggered intense debate among boxing fans, with many Kumasi supporters rejecting the claim and pointing to notable fighters from the Ashanti Region who have excelled nationally and internationally. Others, however, agree that Accra — especially Bukom — has historically produced some of Ghana’s toughest and most celebrated boxers.
The statement adds fuel to an already heated regional rivalry that has shaped Ghanaian boxing for decades. Bukom, often referred to as Ghana’s boxing hub, is known for producing world-class fighters, while Kumasi has steadily grown its boxing reputation in recent years.
