The Chartered Institute of Bankers, Ghana (CIB Ghana) has launched the 2026 edition of the Ghanaian Banker Magazine, its flagship publication chronicling developments in Ghana’s banking industry and the Institute’s role in advancing professional standards across the sector.
The launch took place during CBEL Connect, an evening event held on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Alisa Hotel in North Ridge, Accra.
The event brought together alumni of the Institute’s Chartered Banker Executive Leadership (CBEL) programme, bank chief executives, members of the CIB Ghana Council and officials of the Bank of Ghana to discuss key issues shaping the banking industry.

Welcoming guests, Dr. Mrs Ellen Ohene-Afoakwa, FCIB, President-elect of CIB Ghana, said the launch reflected the Institute’s continued commitment to strengthening professionalism within Ghana’s banking sector.
“The 2026 edition of the Ghanaian Banker Magazine reinforces CIB Ghana’s position as a thought leader and a standard bearer for professionalism in banking,” she said.
Dr. Ohene-Afoakwa also expressed appreciation to members and partners for their continued support of the Institute’s work.
“When bankers connect with purpose, the entire banking industry and the economy moves forward,” she added.
Magazine examines the future of banking
CIB Ghana Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Robert Dzato, FCIB, took guests through the contents of the new edition, describing it as one of the most comprehensive editions produced by the Institute.
“This edition captures where our industry stands today and where it is headed,” Mr. Dzato said, explaining that the publication was designed for bankers, regulators and the wider public.
The 2026 edition features messages from outgoing President Mr. Benjamin Kwabla Amenumey and President-elect Dr. Mrs Ellen Ohene-Afoakwa, as well as a perspective piece from Bank of Ghana Second Deputy Governor Mrs. Matilda Asante-Asiedu, ACIB, examining the future of banking.
The publication also features a leadership interview with Mr. Albert Essien, a former Managing Director of Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI).
Other highlights include a “profit with purpose” feature involving GCB Bank Managing Director Mr. Farihan Alhassa and a personality profile of Consolidated Bank Managing Director Dr. Naomi Wolali Kwetey.
Focus on performance, economic outlook and professional development
Beyond leadership perspectives, the magazine contains economic outlook and budget-related content, together with comparative reviews of bank performance across key industry indicators.
It also reflects on CIB Ghana’s history and its contribution to developing trusted professionals for Ghana’s financial sector.
The publication further highlights the Institute’s professional development programmes, including the Associate Chartered Institute of Bankers (ACIB) qualification and the Chartered Banker Executive Leadership (CBEL) programme.
CIB Ghana’s financial literacy outreach initiatives in secondary schools across the country also receive attention in the 2026 edition.
Bank of Ghana Deputy Governor stresses trust
Speaking at the launch, Mrs. Matilda Asante-Asiedu, ACIB, who was a member of the first CBEL cohort, commended CIB Ghana for the publication and its continued investment in professional development.
She stressed that innovation within banking must be supported by strong professional foundations.
“No amount of innovation, as we have seen, will serve this industry well without the right foundation.”
According to Mrs. Asante-Asiedu, trust remains fundamental to banking and must be earned and protected through integrity, professionalism and responsible conduct.
She emphasised that this responsibility extends across every level of the banking industry, from chief executives and branch managers to frontline personnel.
Mrs. Asante-Asiedu also said publications such as the Ghanaian Banker contribute to the sector’s institutional memory and public accountability.
She encouraged CIB Ghana to continue investing in initiatives that promote professional standards across Ghana’s banking industry.
CIB Ghana targets 2028 World Conference
CIB Ghana said the Ghanaian Banker Magazine will continue to be published annually, with members, bank executives and other industry stakeholders invited to contribute perspectives to future editions.
Mr. Dzato also used the occasion to highlight the Institute’s broader ambitions, including its successful bid to host the 2028 World Conference of Banking Institutes.
He indicated that CIB Ghana would provide further details about the conference in due course.
