Western Regional Police Arrest Effiakuma West Assemblyman, Uncle Over Viral Assault of Teenagers

Suspects Picked Up After Disturbing WhatsApp Video Emerged

The Western Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects captured in a disturbing viral video physically assaulting two teenagers — a 13-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl — and allegedly forcing them to engage in sexual intercourse.

The suspects have been identified as Edward Azalekor, 52, Assemblyman for Effiakuma West, and Martin Amuzu, 35, who is reported to be an uncle to the female victim.

Arrest Made on February 26

In an official statement, police confirmed that the two suspects were arrested on Thursday, 26th February 2026, at Effiakuma in the Western Region following a WhatsApp video received from a presenter at Connect FM.

The footage allegedly shows the suspects physically assaulting the teenagers and coercing them into a sexual act. Authorities say the video evidence prompted immediate police action.

Police Assure Public of Thorough Investigation

The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations. The Western Regional Police Command has strongly condemned the incident and assured the public that the case will be handled with urgency and seriousness.

Police emphasized that crimes involving minors and sexual coercion will be prosecuted under the full rigours of Ghanaian law.

Investigations remain ongoing.
