Ghana’s men’s 4x100m relay team made history by setting a new national record of 37.79 seconds to win their heat and secure a spot in the final at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. The quartet — featuring some of Ghana’s top sprinters — delivered a powerful performance that not only broke the previous mark but also positioned Ghana among the fastest relay teams at the championships.

The time of 37.79 seconds was by far the fastest qualifying result across all heats, underscoring Ghana’s sprinting depth and tactical discipline on the world stage. Anchored by seasoned athletes, the team’s effort reflected years of investment in athletics development and international training exposure.

Analysts say the relay success highlights a growing era of Ghanaian track excellence, building momentum ahead of future events like the 2026 Commonwealth Games and beyond.

Ghana Scraps Mining Stability Pacts, Doubles Royalty Rates

0

Ghana — Africa’s top gold producer — is undertaking a major overhaul of the mining sector by scrapping long‑term investment stability pacts and doubling royalty rates, according to regulators. The proposed reforms, expected to be tabled in Parliament by March 2026, aim to ensure Ghana retains a larger share of revenue from soaring global gold prices.

img 2922

Under the plan, traditional stability agreements that locked in tax and royalty terms for up to 15 years will be phased out, starting with the expired Newmont pact and followed by others by 2027. These agreements, once used to attract foreign investment, have faced criticism for limiting government revenue despite rising bullion prices.

Royalty rates under the new regime would start at 9 percent and rise to 12 percent if gold prices exceed $4,500 an ounce — roughly double Ghana’s current 3‑5 percent range. The reforms also include stricter local‑content rules to prioritise procurement from Ghanaian businesses.

Government officials say these changes will boost national benefits from the mining sector while maintaining profitability for foreign firms. However, smaller and emerging miners have expressed concern about potential cost increases under the new structure. Despite this, regulators argue that mining remains lucrative even with tougher terms.

Supporters believe that this policy shift could strengthen Ghana’s economic sovereignty and ensure that the country captures more value from its significant gold resources in a changing global market.

Ghana Clears $1.47bn Energy Sector Debt, Restores World Bank Guarantee

0

Ghana’s government has announced a significant fiscal breakthrough in the power sector, paying off US $1.47 billion in outstanding energy sector debts that had accumulated over previous years. This move has fully restored the World Bank’s partial risk guarantee, a financial safeguard designed to protect nearly $8 billion in private energy investment and support stable gas supply from the Offshore Cape Three Points field.

According to the finance ministry statement, part of the payments — including nearly $597 million to the World Bank itself — was used to reinstate the guarantee, improving Ghana’s credibility with international partners. The government also settled arrears with independent power producers and gas suppliers, including significant sums owed to ENI, Vitol, Turkey’s Karpowership, and Cenpower Generation.

Officials said the debt clearance marks a turning point for the country’s energy finances, adding that disciplined fiscal management and renegotiated contracts with energy companies helped make the deal possible. The ministry emphasized that clearing these liabilities is expected to reduce disruptions and boost confidence in Ghana’s electricity reliability and investment climate.

This development comes amid broader power sector reforms aimed at attracting private investment and reducing Ghana’s dependence on costly liquid fuels — initiatives officials believe will strengthen energy sustainability and economic growth.

Tenant Narrowly Escapes Lynching After Allegedly Impregnating Landlord’s Wife and Daughter

Shocking family betrayal unfolds in residential community as enraged landlord confronts tenant

Residents of a quiet residential area were left in shock after a dramatic incident involving a tenant, identified as Richard, who narrowly escaped being lynched after his landlord allegedly discovered that both his wife and daughter were pregnant for him.

According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred after Mr. Nyauta, a teacher and landlord, received confirmation of long-circulating rumors surrounding his tenant’s inappropriate relationship with members of his household.

Richard, an Okada (commercial motorcycle) rider, had reportedly been giving Mr. Nyauta’s wife daily rides to town with the landlord’s full knowledge and consent. Neighbours say the arrangement had gone on for months without suspicion.

Mr. Nyauta and his wife have been married for over 20 years and share three children together. Due to the landlord’s work schedule, he often returned home late, remaining unaware of growing tension within his household.

According to reports, a major warning sign emerged a week earlier when Mr. Nyauta’s wife and their eldest daughter were involved in a heated argument inside Richard’s room. Since then, neighbours noticed growing hostility between mother and daughter, though the landlord was reportedly unaware of the cause.

The situation escalated when, just days ago, the daughter informed her mother that she had missed her menstrual cycle. Upon medical checks, it was discovered that she was two months pregnant. The daughter allegedly confessed that Richard was responsible.

Further revelations followed when it emerged that the landlord’s wife herself was three months pregnant, also allegedly for the same tenant. The matter nearly remained hidden until the wife reportedly visited a pharmacy to purchase abortion medication.

The pharmacist, who is said to be a close friend of Mr. Nyauta, reportedly alerted the landlord about the purchase. When confronted, the wife eventually confessed that both she and her daughter were pregnant for Richard.

Eyewitnesses say Mr. Nyauta was momentarily stunned before attempting to physically attack the tenant. Other tenants reportedly intervened, preventing what could have turned into a fatal assault.

Richard has since been evicted immediately from the compound, along with his wife. Although the couple is reportedly separated, no official divorce has been finalized. The landlord’s daughter remains in the home with her father as the family grapples with the fallout of the scandal.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the matter has been reported to law enforcement.
