In a statement on Friday, January 9, 2026, police said the suspects — Hamza Agerego, also known as Nene Bawku or Lambert, and Alhassan Elliasu, also known as Arab Man — were apprehended on January 7 from their hideouts in Ashaiman following intelligence-led operations.

Police revealed that initial arrest went to Agerego, who was detained at the Katamanso District Police Headquarters, before Elliasu was taken into custody during a follow-up operation at his hideout.

A search of their premises led to the recovery of a large cache of weapons and items believed to have been used in the robbery, including:

Two pump-action guns 43 rounds of AK-47 ammunition 239 BB cartridges Four bulletproof vests A black boot, face mask Two cutlasses Mobile phones A wristwatch and CCTV monitor

The police confirmed both suspects are currently assisting authorities with ongoing investigations and will be arraigned in court to face charges.

This latest arrest brings the number of individuals linked to the high-profile Adabraka robbery to at least three, following the earlier detention of another suspect in late December 2025.

The daylight heist, which occurred on November 2, 2024, shocked residents and traders near Adabraka Market as masked gunmen opened fire and carted away millions in proceeds from a gold transaction en route to a bank.

Police say the arrests demonstrate their ongoing commitment to dismantling violent criminal networks and ensuring perpetrators are brought to justice.

In a statement issued by church leadership, the SDA Church clarified that it remains strictly non-partisan and does not support, promote, or endorse any political party or candidate. The Church stressed that its mandate is spiritual and humanitarian, not political.

The clarification follows public speculation after Mr. Agyapong was prayed for at a church-related gathering, which some interpreted as an endorsement. According to the SDA Church, the prayer was pastoral in nature, explaining that prayers are offered to all individuals regardless of their political affiliation, background, or aspirations.

“The Seventh-day Adventist Church does not endorse political candidates,” the statement emphasized, adding that the Church welcomes all persons to worship and receive spiritual support without discrimination.

The Church further cautioned politicians and their supporters against using church platforms, services, or religious activities for political messaging, particularly during election-related periods.

Reaffirming its long-standing position, the SDA Church urged the public to respect its neutrality while encouraging members to exercise their civic rights as private individuals, not as representatives of the Church.

The Ghana Police Service has arrested key members of a notorious highway robbery gang responsible for a wave of violent attacks across the country between 2023 and 2025.

According to police sources, the group targeted motorists, long-distance trailer drivers, commuters, civilians, and even a police officer during their operations. Their activities were concentrated along high-traffic routes including the Tema Motorway, Achimota Forest Road, Suhum, Nkawkaw, Juaso, and sections of the Kumasi highway stretch.

Following months of intelligence-led operations, police units conducted coordinated raids that led to the arrest of several core members of the gang. During the operation, law enforcement officers recovered firearms, live ammunition, and other offensive weapons believed to have been used in the robberies.

Investigators say the suspects operated with extreme violence, often attacking victims at night or during early morning hours, creating fear and insecurity among road users nationwide. The group is also believed to have had a network of accomplices who provided logistical support, intelligence, and escape routes.

While multiple arrests have been made, police have confirmed that some suspects connected to the gang remain at large. A nationwide manhunt has been launched to track down and arrest the remaining members.

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public of its commitment to restoring safety on highways and urged citizens to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist ongoing investigations.

The arrested suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court to face charges including armed robbery, conspiracy, possession of firearms, and murder.

Media Personality Criticizes Trend-Driven Prophecies in Ghana’s Religious Space

Renowned Ghanaian media personality Nana Aba Anamoah has ignited public debate after sharply criticizing prophets who mention celebrities in their prophecies to gain attention and online traction. In a blunt statement shared publicly, Nana Aba described such practices as “clout chasing on a pulpit,” questioning the mental and spiritual grounding of religious leaders who rely on celebrity names to make their prophecies trend.

According to her, prophecies that are supposedly divinely inspired should not need the name of a popular figure to gain relevance or validation. She argued that dragging celebrities into prophetic declarations often fuels unnecessary panic, damages reputations, and shifts focus from genuine spiritual guidance to social media virality.

Nana Aba’s comments come at a time when Ghana’s religious landscape is under intense scrutiny, especially following several controversial prophecies involving public figures that later failed to materialize. These incidents have sparked conversations around accountability, ethics, and regulation within prophetic ministries.

Social media reactions to Nana Aba’s remarks have been mixed. While many Ghanaians applauded her for speaking boldly against what they see as the commercialization of prophecy, others accused her of disrespecting religious authority and undermining faith leaders.

Supporters, however, insist her statement reflects a growing frustration among the public, particularly as prophecies increasingly resemble sensational headlines rather than spiritual messages meant to edify and guide believers.

As debates continue over whether failed or sensational prophecies should attract legal or moral consequences, Nana Aba Anamoah’s comment has added a strong media voice to the call for introspection within Ghana’s prophetic circles.

Speaking about her rise to fame, Gyakie acknowledged that while talent and hard work are important, divine grace has been central to her achievements. She noted that her belief in God has helped her remain grounded despite fame, pressure, and the fast-paced nature of the music industry.

Equally significant in her story is the influence of her father, Nana Acheampong, a respected figure in Ghana’s music history and one-half of the iconic Lumba Brothers. Gyakie credited him for providing not only musical inspiration but also emotional support, discipline, and honest guidance throughout her career. Details indicate that his UK visa is valid until April 21, 2032, while his Canadian visa is set to expire on May 31, 2031. The confirmation of these active travel documents has attracted public attention amid ongoing national discussions surrounding his movements and status following recent political and legal developments.

The existence of long-term visas to major Western countries suggests that Ken Ofori-Atta retains the legal capacity to travel internationally, subject to any local or international legal restrictions that may apply. However, holding a valid visa does not automatically imply current travel or residence outside Ghana.

Public reactions online have been mixed, with some Ghanaians calling for transparency regarding his whereabouts, while others argue that possessing valid visas is normal for high-ranking former government officials who frequently engage in international work.

As of now, there has been no official statement from Ken Ofori-Atta or his legal representatives clarifying whether the visas are being actively used or the purpose for which they were obtained.

Ghana Media will continue to monitor developments and provide verified updates as more information becomes available.

Andre Ayew’s daughter, Inaya Ayew, has sparked excitement among football fans after it emerged that the 13-year-old has enrolled at the new Dortmund International Academy in Accra. Though still very young, Inaya’s enrollment at a professional football academy linked to the German giants Borussia Dortmund signals a serious commitment to football development. The academy is known for its structured training, focus on discipline, and emphasis on nurturing young talents with international standards.

Coming from the iconic Ayew football lineage, expectations are naturally high. Andre Ayew, a former Black Stars captain, alongside his father Abedi Pele and uncle Kwame Ayew, represents one of Ghana’s most celebrated football families. Many fans believe that exposure to elite training at such an early age could give Inaya a strong foundation should she choose to pursue football professionally.

Social media reactions have been largely positive, with many Ghanaians expressing hope that Inaya could one day wear the Black Queens jersey and continue the Ayew legacy on the women’s side of Ghanaian football. Others, however, have urged restraint, reminding the public that she is still developing and should be allowed to grow without pressure.

For now, Inaya Ayew’s journey is just beginning. Whether she eventually represents Ghana at the international level remains to be seen, but her current path has already captured national attention.

Ghana Media will continue to follow her progress and provide updates as her football journey unfolds.
