A 22-year-old Ugandan TikTok creator and waitress identified as Jovia Namuwulya, popularly known online as Jovia1235, has been found dead in her room in Bukoto, Kampala, with police arresting her roommate in connection with the killing.
Ugandan police confirmed the arrest of Patricia Rose Turindamukama, who was taken into custody following the death of Namuwulya.
According to Ugandan media reports citing police, Namuwulya was found dead in her room on August 20, 2026. She had reportedly moved into the room about seven months earlier and later invited Turindamukama to stay with her.
Police said Turindamukama was arrested on August 24 at a friend’s residence in Mbuya, Kampala, four days after Namuwulya’s death.
Authorities reportedly recovered documents during the arrest and said the suspect had applied for a visa to travel to Iraq on August 21, one day after the killing.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala said investigations were continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding Namuwulya’s death and the suspect’s alleged involvement.
At this stage, police have not publicly established a motive for the killing.
The case has generated significant attention online, partly because both women were reportedly known to each other and because social-media accounts have circulated various claims about what may have happened before Namuwulya’s death.
One particularly sensational version of the story circulating online claims that Namuwulya and her friend became involved with a man described as being from Dubai before the fatal incident.
