Inna Mariam Patty reflects on Miss Ghana’s 69-year legacy of leadership, women empowerment and national development.

“The greatest strength of Miss Ghana has never been the crown,” Patty stated. “Its true value lies in the opportunities it creates for young women to discover themselves, build confidence, and realise that leadership begins with service.”

According to her, Miss Ghana was empowering women long before conversations surrounding gender equality and female leadership became global priorities. Through the pageant, contestants undergo extensive training in public speaking, leadership, emotional intelligence, financial literacy, diplomacy, teamwork, project management and personal branding while engaging policymakers, corporate leaders, traditional authorities and development partners.

She noted that these transformational experiences have been strengthened through partnerships with institutions including the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Fidelity Bank, Manet Properties, Pippa’s Health Centre, Amazing U, Jungle Warfare School at Akim Achiase, Sashabayack, Buka Restaurant, La Chaumière, Oak Plaza Hotel and several other organisations committed to youth development.

Patty further highlighted that the success of Miss Ghana is reflected in the accomplishments of its former contestants, many of whom now occupy influential positions in government, diplomacy, banking, education, healthcare, law, entrepreneurship, media and the creative arts. She cited personalities including Hon. Sena Benita Okity-Duah, H.E. Kalsoume Sinare Baffoe, Brigitte Dzogbenuku, Sheila Azuntaba, Yvonne Nelson, Kafui Danku and Precious Kyei Bonsu as examples of women whose careers demonstrate the pageant’s lasting impact.

She also praised the work of the Miss Ghana Foundation, explaining that it shifted the pageant’s focus from celebration to sustainable community service. Through the Foundation, contestants undertake community projects that address pressing societal challenges while promoting accountability, compassion and innovation.

The Foundation has supported life-changing scoliosis surgeries for children at FOCOS Orthopaedic Hospital, maternal and child healthcare initiatives, HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns, child protection programmes with Don Bosco Child Protection and Youth Centre, sanitation exercises, tree planting projects, waste management initiatives and mechanised borehole installations in several communities.

Patty also recalled the pageant’s contribution to tourism promotion through the Tourism Ambassador Initiative launched in partnership with the late Hon. Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey and the Ministry of Tourism. The initiative saw Miss Ghana contestants represent the country during the World Travel Market in London and other international campaigns promoting Ghana as a tourism and investment destination.

Looking ahead to the organisation’s 70th anniversary, she called for renewed national support, noting that Miss Ghana was established during the administration of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who recognised the importance of youth development, culture and national identity.

She encouraged young Ghanaian women participating in the current auditions to embrace the opportunity, stressing that confidence is developed through mentorship, experience, perseverance and service.

“The journey is no longer about appearance. It is about purpose,” she concluded, adding that Miss Ghana’s greatest achievement lies not in the crowns it has awarded but in the thousands of lives it has touched, communities it has transformed and leaders it has produced over nearly seven decades.
