A Nigerian businessman popularly known as “Big Joe” has reportedly been shot dead by unidentified gunmen outside his business premises in Witbank, Emalahleni, Mpumalanga Province, South Africa.

The fatal shooting reportedly occurred on Sunday, June 28, 2026, with multiple Nigerian news reports stating that the businessman was attacked outside his shop and died at the scene.

Reports identified the deceased by the nickname Big Joe, describing him as a Nigerian trader operating a legitimate business in the area. The identity and motive of the assailants remain unclear in the reports reviewed by Ghana Media.
Murder Reportedly Under Investigation
The killing has triggered anger and concern online, particularly among Nigerians and other African migrants living in South Africa.
Reports say a murder case has been opened and no arrests had been announced at the time of the initial reports.
