The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers in connection with the abduction of Ayuba Sumiya Mawudu, also known as Haruna, at Dobini Bunban near Yendi in the Northern Region.

The suspects, identified as Mahumudu Abdulai, 32, Ganiu Sumaila, 32, and Abdulai Salam, 28, were arrested at different locations in Sang in the Mion District on September 29, 2026.
Victim allegedly abducted by armed men
Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim was allegedly abducted on September 25, 2026, after four armed men attacked him and his brother at their residence.
According to the police account, the suspected kidnappers subsequently contacted the victim’s family and demanded GH¢100,000 for his release.
Victim escapes from captivity
The victim reportedly managed to escape from his captors and was taken to a clinic in Sambu for medical attention.
Police officers subsequently proceeded to the facility, where they engaged the victim. He reportedly told investigators that he had been taken to an undisclosed location and kept under guard by armed men before escaping.
According to the account, some farmers in Sambu assisted the victim to safety after his escape.
Suspects identified
The victim subsequently identified all three arrested suspects from photographs presented to him by the Police.
Further investigations have also reportedly linked the suspects to other robbery incidents in the area.
Police continue investigations
The three suspects are currently in Police custody assisting with investigations as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged kidnapping.
Police are also continuing efforts to arrest the remaining suspected accomplices connected to the incident.
The suspects remain suspected at this stage, and the investigation is ongoing.
