Ghana’s Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has disclosed that more than 405,000 applicants are competing for just 5,000 available recruitment slots across Ghana’s security services.
Speaking on the intense demand for government security jobs, the minister revealed that the recruitment process has attracted an overwhelming number of applicants, highlighting the growing unemployment pressure among graduates.
405,000 Applicants For Only 5,000 Positions
According to Hon. Muntaka, the data compiled by the Ministry of the Interior shows that 75,000 tertiary graduates and about 330,000 Senior High School (SHS) graduates submitted applications for recruitment.
However, he stressed that the government can only accommodate 5,000 recruits in the current recruitment cycle.
“The data we have shows that 75,000 tertiary graduates and 330,000 SHS graduates applied for recruitment. But we can take only 5,000,” the Interior Minister stated.
The announcement underscores the intense competition for security sector employment in Ghana.
Recruitment Pressure Across Security Agencies
The security sector—including the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and Ghana Prisons Service—remains one of the most sought-after employment avenues for young graduates.
