Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has pointed to the substitution of defender Terry Yegbe Senaya as a crucial moment in the Black Stars’ defeat to Colombia, arguing that the team lost its defensive discipline and organisation after his exit.

Speaking after the match, Queiroz explained that the tactical adjustment required Alidu Seidu to settle into a new situation, creating a brief period of vulnerability that Colombia exploited.

“The moment Senaya came off, the team did not have the same discipline and organisation. It took Alidu Seidu a few minutes to adjust, and they took advantage of that moment to score,” Queiroz said, according to Joy Sports.
The assessment highlights the fine tactical margins that shaped Ghana’s performance against Colombia, with the head coach suggesting that a temporary loss of defensive structure proved costly.
Queiroz’s comments are also likely to fuel debate over Ghana’s substitutions, defensive transitions and the ability of players to quickly adapt when tactical changes are made during high-intensity international matches.
For Senaya, the coach’s remarks underline the importance of his role in maintaining Ghana’s shape and organisation before he was withdrawn. Alidu Seidu, meanwhile, needed time to adjust as Colombia increased the pressure and capitalised on the moment.
The defeat will leave the Black Stars with key lessons as Queiroz continues shaping the team and assessing combinations ahead of future assignments.
